What to Expect
Most roles involve monthly board meetings, communication with members, and participation in projects, events, or planning throughout the year.
CDHA is volunteer-led, and we understand that members balance work, family, and other commitments. Our goal is to make leadership meaningful, manageable, and supportive.
Leadership Opportunities
CDHA offers several ways to get involved, from elected leadership roles to appointed committee support. Whether you are ready to lead or simply want to start participating, there is a place to begin.
President-Elect
Supports the President and prepares to transition into the President role. This position provides a full year of mentorship and exposure to all areas of CDHA operations, including meetings, planning, and communication.
Estimated commitment: Monthly meetings + leadership involvement
Vice President
Leads continuing education planning and helps coordinate one of CDHA’s most visible member offerings. This role may include working with speakers, helping with logistics, and supporting event execution.
Estimated commitment: Event-based planning + monthly check-ins
Secretary
Maintains meeting records and supports communication across the board. This role helps ensure agendas, minutes, and organizational updates are documented and shared in a timely manner.
Estimated commitment: Monthly meetings + documentation
Treasurer Support / Transition Role
Works alongside the Treasurer to learn financial processes such as budgeting, reporting, payments, and recordkeeping. This is a strong opportunity for someone interested in building confidence before stepping into a future Treasurer term.
Estimated commitment: Flexible, training-focused
Trustee
Serves as the connection between CDHA and the Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association (ODHA). The Trustee communicates state-level updates to members, attends ODHA Board of Trustees meetings, and helps prepare delegates for Annual Session.
Estimated commitment: Monthly communication + ODHA virtual and in-person meetings
Delegates
Represent CDHA at the ODHA Annual Session by reviewing, discussing, and voting on matters that impact the profession. Delegates also participate in preparation meetings leading up to Annual Session.
Estimated commitment: Fall-focused preparation + Annual Session
Student delegates may be considered.
Alternate Delegates
Support the delegate team and step in when needed. This is a great entry point for members who want to become more involved in state-level leadership with a slightly lighter commitment.
Committee Roles
Committee involvement is based on interest and coordinated with committee chairs. These roles are appointed rather than elected and can be a great way to get involved before pursuing a board role.
